Fortis Energy Reaches Ready-to-Build Status on 375 MWp of Solar and 112 MWh of Storage Projects in Southeast Europe
Fortis Energy has reached ready-to-build status on three utility-scale solar projects in Southeast Europe, totalling 375 MWp of generation capacity and a total of 112 MWh of battery energy storage across Albania and Serbia.The portfolio comprises the Ersekë Solar Power Plant in Albania (75 MWp DC, paired with a 40 MWh BESS), the Noćaj Solar Power Plant in Serbia (270 MWp DC with 72 MWh of storage) and the Green Solar Power Plant in Serbia (30 MWp DC). All three sites are permitted and hold secured grid connection agreements, with commercial operation scheduled for Q4 2027 at Ersekë and Green, and Q2 2028 at Noćaj.
Together, the three plants are expected to deliver approximately 494 GWh of clean electricity annually, equivalent to the consumption of around 141,000 households, while displacing an estimated 317,000 tonnes of CO₂ per year from two of the region's most carbon-intensive grids.
At Ersekë and Noćaj, the integrated storage systems in each plant enable energy time-shifting and output firming, moving midday solar generation into the evening demand peak. This configuration is the practical expression of Fortis Energy's Green Baseload strategy: converting variable renewable output into firm, dispatchable capacity that strengthens grid stability rather than adding to intermittency.
Ready-to-build status marks the point at which permitting, land rights and grid-connection readiness are complete and the projects move into procurement and construction. It reflects several years of development work with national regulators, transmission operators and local communities in both markets.
These three projects form part of a broader development pipeline exceeding 3.5 GW, adding to more than 800 MW already delivered by Fortis Energy across seven countries. They reinforce the Fortis's position as a long-term investor, developer and independent power producer in Central and Eastern Europe, and its conviction that energy security, economic development and decarbonisation are mutually reinforcing objectives.
