Fortis Energy completes solar panel installations at the Istanbul Marmaray Solar Project

Fortis Energy has completed a significant phase of the solar energy project conducted within the sustainability vision of Istanbul Marmaray commuter rail, which connects Asia and Europe as one of Türkiye’s most strategic transportation networks. In the initiative designed by Turkish State Railways to transform the roofs of Marmaray stations and administrative buildings into energy production hubs, the installation of solar panels and electromechanical integration across all 26 stations has been finalized.

Photovoltaic panel installations, steel construction assemblies and support system applications have been completed at 26 train stations across the European and Asian continents. During the process executed by Fortis teams, the DC and AC cabling infrastructure, positioning of inverter groups, installation of collection panels and setup of grid synchronization systems were finalized, making the facilities ready for operation.

These systems, which will reach a total installed capacity of 11 MW, aim to support Marmaray’s energy-intensive transportation infrastructure with green energy. Serving the sustainable transportation model, a fundamental element of modern urbanization, this project contributes directly to minimizing the carbon footprint by meeting the energy needs of rail systems through local, zero-emission sources.

Expected to generate over 13 GWh of electricity annually, these facilities represent not only a renewable energy investment but also a reference on a global scale in terms of sustainable urban development and eco-friendly transportation integration.

Following the completion of electrical and mechanical works, technical testing and measurement processes for the power plants are ongoing. Upon the conclusion of relevant inspections and acceptance procedures, the systems across all 26 stations are planned to be commissioned gradually.

We take pride in realizing this strategic project at the intersection of the transportation and energy sectors by combining our technical engineering expertise with the principles of sustainability.
