Fortis Energy to Commence Construction of 75 MWp Ersekë Solar Power Plant and 40 MWh BESS in Albania

Fortis Energy is set to commence construction of the Ersekë Solar Power Plant in the coming period, a 75 MWp DC solar project paired with a 40 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS), located in the village of Taç-Lartë, Kolonjë region, Albania.

With an annual generation potential exceeding 135 GWh, Ersekë SPP represents a significant milestone in Albania's renewable energy trajectory; combining utility-scale solar generation with integrated storage capabilities to deliver firm, dispatchable clean power to the national grid.

The co-located BESS is central to the project's design philosophy. By enabling energy time-shifting and output firming, the system will transform intermittent solar generation into a reliable, on-demand energy asset; a direct embodiment of Fortis Energy's Green Baseload strategy. This approach converts variable renewable sources into a stable, continuous power supply, reinforcing grid stability and reducing dependency on fossil-based peaking capacity.

The project will bring together a carefully selected consortium of local, national and international suppliers and contractors, ensuring the highest engineering standards while creating tangible economic value. The mobilization of this supply chain reflects Fortis Energy's commitment to fostering local employment, supporting regional economic development and building long-term community partnerships in the markets where we operate.

Beyond its technical and commercial dimensions, Ersekë SPP carries meaningful social and environmental significance. The project will contribute to Albania's decarbonization agenda, displace carbon-intensive generation capacity and demonstrate that large-scale renewable development can serve as a catalyst for sustainable regional growth.

Ersekë SPP will reinforce Fortis Energy's expanding operational footprint across Central and Eastern Europe, adding a benchmark hybrid solar-plus-storage asset to a portfolio built on the principle that energy security, economic development and environmental responsibility are not competing objectives, they are mutually reinforcing pillars of a resilient energy future.
