Fortis Energy has completed the construction and installation of the 5,980 kWp Karabıyıklı Solar Power Plant, owned by the Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality. The Karabıyıklı Solar Power Plant will soon be commissioned and is set to produce 10 million kWh of clean, renewable energy annually. Built with an investment of 140 million TL, the plant will meet 60% of the municipality’s energy needs and is expected to save approximately 50 million TL each year.
The active involvement of local governments in energy production is considered critical in the fight against climate change and for achieving energy independence in cities. Municipalities that invest in environmentally friendly solutions such as solar panels, wind turbines, and biogas facilities are increasingly able to meet the energy consumption of public buildings and social facilities using their own resources. As one such initiative, the Kahramanmaraş Karabıyıklı Solar Power Plant not only lowers energy expenses but also contributes to environmental responsibility by reducing carbon emissions—directly aligning with sustainable development goals.
