Fortis Energy has obtained the official construction permit for its major solar and energy storage project in Sremska Mitrovica, Serbia. The project will feature a 270 MWp photovoltaic power plant combined with a 72 MWh Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) and it holds a grid connection permit for 180 MW(AC). The project site is located south of the Sava River, near the village of Drenovac.
Fortis Energy maintained a close and transparent dialogue with the Sremska Mitrovica administration during the permitting stage, conducting thorough technical and environmental reviews. This dialogue emphasized the project's commitment to sustainable development, highlighting how the use of clean, renewable energy will generate significant socio-economic benefits for the region.
Construction is scheduled to begin in the second quarter of 2026. Once operational, it is expected to be one of the largest solar power and energy storage facilities in Southeast Europe. With over 2.5 GW of renewable energy projects in development, Fortis is targeting a total installed capacity of 1.2 GW by 2027, driven by its Green Baseload vision. This strategy aims to create a stable, uninterrupted and sustainable energy model capable of replacing traditional fossil fuel plants by integrating diverse renewable sources -such as wind, solar and biogas- with battery energy storage systems. This strategic investment underscores Fortis Energy's commitment to advancing the energy transition and strengthens its position as a key provider of renewable energy solutions in the CEE market.
