Fortis Energy is outfitting the roofs of Turkish Railways Marmaray rail stations with solar panels

Marmaray, one of Türkiye's most significant infrastructure investments, is taking a pioneering role in the country's green energy transition. As part of a solar power plant tender held by the Turkish State Railways (TCDD), Fortis Energy is outfitting the roofs of Marmaray rail stations with solar panels. Once completed, the project will have an installed capacity of 10,637 kWp (approximately 11 MW). The solar plants will generate over 13 million kWh of electricity annually, meeting Marmaray's operational energy needs with clean power.

Set to become a model for Türkiye's renewable energy targets, this project covers 26 stations spanning both the European and Anatolian sides of Istanbul. The Marmaray Solar Project, led by Fortis Energy, not only delivers significant environmental benefits but also strengthens the energy supply security of Türkiye's strategic infrastructure. Integrating solar power with the electric-powered Marmaray line establishes this as a landmark project for sustainable urbanization and clean transportation on a global scale.

The project is progressing on schedule, with the structural framework phase now successfully completed at all stations. Solar panel installations are now complete at the Ataköy, Ayrılıkçeşmesi, Erenköy, Halkalı, Kaynarca, Maltepe, Pendik, Söğütlüçeşme and Yenimahalle stations. The project is scheduled to be fully completed and commissioned in 2026.
