Fortis Energy's new biogas power plant is now operational. We have launched the 3-MW Dolovo Biogas Power Plant in Serbia. The facility's three motors are expected to generate more than 28 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, which is enough to power 12,000 homes and prevent the emission of 20 million kilograms of CO2 equivalent from fossil fuels.

#Biogas is an #environmentally-friendly, #renewable #energy source produced by the breakdown of organic matter such as animal waste and food scraps. The biological matter that’s used to produce biogas will naturally decay anyway, so capturing the gases produced by this decay, and using them as an energy source, causes less harm to the environment than allowing them to escape into the atmosphere.

The anaerobic process of decomposition (or fermentation) of organic matter has been happening in nature for millions of years, even before fossil fuels, and continues to happen all around us in the natural world. Today’s industrial conversion of organic waste into energy in biogas plants is fast-forwarding nature’s ability to recycle its resources.
